Tying Tips and Tricks

Below are some tying tips that you might already know that I have found very useful in my fly tying. I do not know who developed them, but these are some tips and tricks that I use every day when I sit at my bench. If you have other tips and would like to share them, please e-mail them to me at buz@buzfly.com. The more you share, the more that you will learn

Taming Angel Hair
Angle Hair is one of the best flash materials once you know how to store, handle and work with it. It should be in everyone’s fly tying box.

Soft Body Tail
Generic tail that can be used on may different flies. The tail material is tied forward and then reversed over it self locking the material in and forcing the material to point upwards at an angle.

Craft Fur
Craft Fur is a soft flexible synthetic fiber that is available in many different colors. It is inexpensive, easy to work with and has multiple length fibers in each hank of fur.

Slinky Fiber
Slinky Fiber is a flexible synthetic fiber that is available in many different colors. It is inexpensive, easy to work with and blends easily with other fibers.

 

Zap-A-Gap - A CA glue that will bond almost anything very quickly. It can be used to attach eyes, foam, act as head cement and sometimes glues your fingers together.
